Okay, I must confess I was never a big fan of ice cream. Probably because, when I was a kid, the selection was pretty dismal…vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or, if you were really lucky, Neapolitan. Boring!
I changed my mind about ice cream when I met Earnest…Earnest Ice Cream that is. Their salted caramel blew me away! Now I’ve started to explore other ice cream joints and I must say, we have some great ones. Here’s a list of my favourites.
There’s a reason why this is one of Vancouver’s most popular ice cream spots. It’s because they serve some seriously delicious flavours like London Fog, Salted Caramel and Chocolate Almond Toffee. They also offer seasonal flavours that include Pumpkin Pie and Gingerbread. Earnest also offers vegan choices. You can find them at 3992 Fraser Street and 1829 Quebec Street.
Vancouver’s first vegan micro-creamery. Nice Vice uses only top quality and ethically-sourced ingredients. Customers can enjoy flavours like Banana Fudge, Matcha Avocado, Lemonhead, Blueberry Sage, Strawberry, Mango, Peach Green Tea, Chocoholics Anonymous and Vanilla. You can find Nice Vice at 1022 Mainland Street.
It’s always time for ice cream. This popular shop offers flavours like Blueberry Balsamic, Cracked Mint and Coffee Toffee. They also have seasonal favourites like Strawberry Jam Swirl and Raspberry Rhubarb Oat Streusel. Located at 3382 Cambie Street and 1926 West 4th Avenue.
This gourmet ice cream shop in Kitsilano offers a flavour lineup that includes 10 regulars like Green Tea, Black Sesame, Coffee, London Fog, and Houjicha (a type of Japanese roasted tea). They also make their own cookie cones, which are awesome! Check them out at 2729 Arbutus Street.
Slowly churned in small batches, Bella Gelateria offers a range of wonderful flavours like Dulce de Leche and Salted Hazelnut. Waiting in line for this award-winning treat is well worth it. Located at 1089 Marinaside Crescent.
A hand-crafted organic milk ice cream that is lower in calories and fat than most other types of ice cream. Flavours include Salty Himalayan, Honeycomb Peak, Rocky Mountain and Mudslide. Located at 25 Alexander Street.
Located in Yaletown, Mister’s is making a name for itself thanks to their nitrogen-churned ice cream. Not only does the chill blast of liquid nitrogen emit an impressive evaporating mist, which customers can view from across the glass counter, but it also creates an ultra smooth scoop. Find them at 1141 Mainland Street.
This is another nitrogen ice cream spot. Their flavours include: Honey 720 (honey drizzle and golden honeycomb), Milk’ee (crushed walnuts, caramel drizzle, espresso grass jelly and crunchy almond cookie) and The Classic (crushed Graham crackers, condensed milk, and a baked butter cookie). Located at 3278 West Broadway.
